A Second Helping

![]()
What is it? A Second Helping is a program to collect unopened canned goods and other food items, perishable and non-perishable, from vacationers as they leave Holden Beach, NC. These items are distributed to the needy of Brunswick County through one of the local churches.
When? The 2010 collections will be held each Saturday morning from 7 A.M. until noon, beginning June 19, 2010, and ending Labor Day weekend.
Where? Our very convenient drop site is in the Holden Beach Chapel parking lot on Ocean Boulevard.
To those of you who contributed in the past, we thank you very much and look forward to seeing you in 2010. Your compassion is very much appreciated and was put to good use in helping to feed the hungry in this area
2009
totals were 14,290 lbs.
Our
collections now total more
than 39,000 lbs. since the program began in July of 2005.
Good news! “A Second Helping” food program has spread to two other beaches (Ocean Isle Beach and Oak Island) and, hopefully, will continue to spread to others.
Cash donations gratefully
accepted. For each dollar received, we can buy approximately 5 lbs. of
food.
100% of these donations are used to buy more food.
